Berkeley College is exhibiting Dreamland, a group of paintings focusing on artist Mitch Gyson's continued exploration into landscapes inspired by wildness, memory, and imagination. His career spans over 25 years of diverse and eclectic art and image making.
Some projects include: magazine and poster illustrations, miniature golf course designs, and richly detailed murals for some of the nation's busiest airports. Several of his works are in the collections of Amgen Corporation, United Airlines, Marriott Corporation, and the estate of Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
In 2001, Mr. Gyson began creating portraits of his family's dog that captured the unique character and personality with which he approaches all of his animal subjects. These works, which are in private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada, have also been featured on the television show, "Animal Planet," and exhibited in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and Boston, Massachusetts.
Mr. Gyson's passion for landscape painting continues to evolve. He was recently recognized with a Global Showcase Award from the Amsterdam-Whitney Gallery in New York City and a Front Page Award from the ArtNetwork's Directory of Living Artists. His work is also featured in the Fall 2008 issue of Studio Visit Magazine.
Dreamland is on display at the Berkeley College New York City Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street, from December 3 through 31. The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. An artist's reception will be held on Wednesday, December 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
