CALLING ALL NEW STUDENTS!
As a first quarter student, things can be confusing at times and perhaps a little scary. To help guide our new online students through their educational journey, each new student has been assigned a Peer as part of our Peer-to-Peer for Online Students program. Our Peers were selected through a rigorous process and trained to guide our newest additions to the Berkeley family. Peers are not tutors, rather they are a resource to answer questions during the critical first quarter. For more information, e-mail StudentDevelopmentOnline@berkeleycollege.edu.
Did you know? Library 411!
Increase your vocabulary by e-mail or RSS feed options. A new feature from the Library’s OED/ Oxford English Dictionary online database is Word of the Day. To register for this service use your mymail@berkeleycollege.edu account to e-mail wotd@oed.com with a message consisting of the line subscribe oedwotd-amer-1 for North and South America subscribers or subscribe oedwotd-1 for elsewhere in the world. Leave the 'subject' line blank. A powerful vocabulary is a valuable asset and an attribute of success.

Celebrate MLK... A Day On, Not a Day Off!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is one of the most revered civil rights leaders in the 20th Century. A Nobel Prize winner, pastor, and public speaker, Dr. King has had a profound impact on race relations. His eloquent and powerful statements continue to influence us today.
Celebrate Martin Luther King Day, January 21, by getting involved! Log into “Online Degree” organization (in the Community Tab or under “My Organizations” on your Blackboard home page) to watch a brief video, weigh in on a discussion board, and learn how to get involved.
Do you do something special in honor of MLK Day? If so, submit a brief essay (300 words or less) and tell us what you do!
Online Club Convention
Online Clubs were created to meet the need of online students at Berkeley College who cannot come to a campus, but still want to be part of the college community and interact with their fellow students. The College supports Online Clubs and wants to expand them to include all Berkeley students from all campuses and all programs. Through the use of Blackboard and other technologies, Berkeley is expanding its current Online Clubs and looking to create more clubs to help all of our students experience this aspect of college. Check out our Club Convention in Blackboard by going to “Online Degree Organization” (in the “Community” tab) and select the Club Convention Button. Our online clubs currently include: The Online Book Club and The Parent's Club.
Do you have an idea for a club? E-mail StudentDevelopmentOnline@berkeleycollege.edu.
Operation Homefront
Established after September 11th, 2001, Operation Homefront provides military personnel and families with support in a variety of ways, including ePackages and e-mails. It is affiliated with CinCHouse.com, an online community for military families, and is one of the only charities that falls under the Memorandum of Understanding issued by the United States' Department of Defense (http://operationhomefront.net/aboutus.asp).
Regardless of whether or not you support the war, our troops are risking their lives and need our support. As an Online Campus, our goal is to have 25 people sponsor a military member or military family by February 15. If you have a few extra dollars to spare, you can send an e-Package. If you would prefer, you can simply send an e-mail showing your support and forever touch the life of a total stranger. Click here to get involved!
