One Student’s Opinion about Life Nicole Seawright is a self-professed “mid-life” student majoring in Management-Entrepreneurship at Berkeley College Online. She has been serving our community as a Peer in our Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program for (New) Online Students for two quarters. She shares her career journey and some experience as a mentor below. “Two faculty casually mentioned that my discussion style was that of an instructor and that planted a seed in my mind. I signed up to be a Peer (mentor) to see if I really could share knowledge and advise others. After the first month, I realized teaching is what I want to do. The Peer-to-Peer program has helped me improve my relationship skills, expand my ability to deal with difficult situations, and keep the fire of teaching lit in my heart. The Peer-to-Peer program has been the best part of my experience here at Berkeley. I learned a new lesson from each mentee during each quarter. If I didn’t take advantage of what the Online program had to offer, then I would never have realized my purpose in life. Teaching may not be your cup of tea, but the connections and inspiration you gain by helping others navigate their way through the road you have already traveled are long lasting.” |
