Welcome to Issue 2 of the Fall Quarter E-Newsletter, designed to serve the unique needs of Berkeley College Online Campus students. Online Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) at Berkeley College is a vessel for faculty and staff to remain on the pulse of student issues. Student Government officers serve as liaisons, representing fellow students on a variety of concerns related to being a Berkeley College students. Student Government also creates leadership opportunities for students who are seeking to enhance their Berkeley College experience. These leaders represent their respective campus at various functions, when possible.
We are currently seeking a President and Vice President for the 2008 academic year. Eligible students will posses a minimum 2.5 GPA and have at least 4 quarters left as a student. Interested candidates should submit a brief essay including a vision statement with goals as they pertain to the position of interest, a list of relevant experience, and a brief biography. Be sure to include why your fellow students should vote for you. All correspondence should be sent to StudentDevelopment@berkeleycollege.edu.
Basic functions of SGA officers include running two meetings each quarter in a Blackboard Discussion Board. Based on these meetings and other contact with student, SGA Officers will continually seek to improve the Berkeley College experience for all online students. This position is new to the Online Campus and we are seeking innovative and creative students to help us discover the limitless possibilities of an Online SGA.
Not interested in running for office? Be sure to vote in the SGA elections in Online Degree Organization. The ballots will be available beginning 11/20 and ending 11/26

Log on to Blackboard, choose the Community tab, click on Career Services and then go to the Career Network to find information on how to join. Get started today and become part of the Berkeley network, one that provides an advantage for all members.
Cutest Baby Picture Contest
The Parent’s Club will be hosting a "Cutest Baby" contest with a chance to win a $30 gift certificate to Toys R Us. All pictures must be e-mailed to StudentDevelopment@berkeleycollege.edu (as a .jpg or .pdf file) by November 19 to qualify. For more information on The Parent's Club, e-mail Student Development.

National Distance Learning Day Essay Contest
Do you know that as an online degree student at Berkeley College, you are part of the fastest growing segment of education today? In the United States, more than 2 million adults and 700,000 K-12 students are taking a course or completing their education completely online.
2007 National Distance Learning Week will be held November 12-16 to celebrate distance learning across the country and educate the general public on the future of online learning. In recognition of this week, Berkeley College Online will sponsor a student essay contest and publicize key resources about online learning through Blackboard.

Be part of this special week and consider submitting your essay that answers the following question, "How have online courses helped you meet your educational goals?"
Submit your essay by following these guidelines:
1. Essay contest is open to all online degree students at Berkeley College.
2. Essay length is 500 words.
3. Write your essay in Microsoft Word. All essays must include first/last name, daytime phone number, your online degree program, your start date at Berkeley, and your home town and home state.
4. Submit your essay to Online Student Development and Campus Life at onlinesdcl@berkeleycollege.edu
5. Deadline to submit your essay is November 26.
Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place essays! Winners announced in the December issue of our e-newsletter. (Berkeley College reserves the right to use submissions in future publications.)
Did You Know? Library 411!
Digital versions of books are an excellent option for the online student with research assignments. The NetLibrary collection contains over 7000 full-text, e-Book titles. E-Books are electronic versions of print books that have been enhanced with features such as links from the Table of Contents, embedded dictionary and encyclopedias, and the ability to search for specific content within the entire text. You can read the whole book or just a chapter, depending on your needs. To find our E-book collection click on the Library Tab in Blackboard >Locate NetLibrary under Find Library Catalogs. You can browse the subject center or search by author, title or keyword.

Payment Plan Reminder
Remember to check your Payment Plan Contract and make all payments by the due dates indicated. A payment made after the due date will result in a mandatory $75.00 Late Payment Fee. Please pay online through Student Self Service, as payments made online will post to your account in real-time. Be sure to retain the confirmation number as your receipt.
