Berkeley College's commitment to our students begins with our commitment to our faculty. By providing strong, system-wide support for all of our faculty members, Berkeley College helps to achieve our mission of empowering students to achieve professional and personal success.
The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) was created to provide this support system for our faculty and ultimately, our students. After all, it is only through ongoing development and scholarship that our faculty members can provide a comprehensive and supportive educational experience that fosters the academic integrity and commitment to lifelong learning that we promise to every student.
CELT provides faculty orientation to new full-time and adjunct faculty. A faculty mentor program has been implemented in 2010, teaming seasoned faculty with our new faculty in order to ease the transition and create a professional community of practice. In addition, Berkeley Technology Boot Camps are offered to all new faculty at each campus in order to expedite the knowledge transfer from our Technology Resource Coordinators of Berkeley’s email, content management, and classroom systems.
For all faculty, CELT provides a comprehensive listing of workshops during the academic year that focus on a wide range of topics such as classroom management techniques, pedagogical skill development, blended learning, and service learning. Taught by our own faculty, as well as outside experts, these workshops keep our faculty on the cutting edge of academic excellence.
Finally, CELT provides guidance to our faculty regarding faculty assessment and evaluation as well as scholarship and professional development. CELT offers a generous grant program through our Faculty Professional Development Grant Committee which meets monthly to review applications for grants to attend workshops, seminars, and conferences on a regional, national, and even international level.
