Education in the liberal arts has long been recognized as an essential part of the Berkeley College curriculum. It is a testimony to the institution's belief in both general education and specialized training. The School of Liberal Arts offers courses in Humanities, Mathematics/Science, Social Sciences, English, and Foreign Languages.
The liberal arts aim not only to build applicable skills such as reading, thinking, and writing, but also to broaden a person’s awareness of the world and its inhabitants. The courses in The School of Liberal Arts are designed to instill an appreciation for the great works of Western Civilization; however, courses also endeavor to deepen a students’ appreciation of cultural differences in an active, energetic way. The School of Liberal Arts strives to teach its students not only to understand people who think and look different from them, but to enjoy, celebrate, and learn from these differences.
The programs in The School of Liberal Arts also serve The School of Business and The School of Professional Studies. The faculty and I welcome those who want to explore the world with Berkeley as their guide.
