Topics: Management and leadership with a special emphasis on managing and implementing change in organizations. Experience in creating and implementing new and expanding business strategies; proven skills in product development, problem solving and team building, acquisitions, and union and contract negotiations. Background: Dr. Hughes joined Berkeley College in 2004 as a faculty member of the Business Administration Department teaching courses in management and organizational behavior, as well as organizational theory and design. In 2005, he was appointed Dean of Academic Affairs for the College’s New Jersey campuses and in 2006 to his current position. As the Dean of Student Development and Campus Life for Berkeley’s New Jersey campuses, Dr. Hughes is responsible for the student residence at the College’s Garret Mountain campus. Dr. Hughes oversees all counseling services offered at the New Jersey campuses; all student-related community, development, recreation, and athletic programs; as well as student events that occur outside the classroom. A leader and manager of change in his own right, Dr. Hughes served as the General Manager for The Free Lance-Star, one of the fastest growing newspapers in Virginia with interests in radio and the Internet. He also held the position of Director of Operations for Newsday, Inc., the sixth largest daily newspaper in the country. In addition, he served as Assistant to the Senior Vice President & Group Controller for the Times Mirror Company, a $3 billion newspaper and magazine publishing and information company acquired by The Tribune Company. Degrees: Dr. Hughes holds an Ed. D., from Dowling College, an M.B.A. from Rutgers University, and a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross.
