International Student Office
Berkeley's International Student Office provides personal help with immigration procedures, housing information, orientation to college life, and adjusting to educational practices and life in the United States. Programs of Study
International students may enroll in any of the programs of study at Berkeley College. Many of the courses can be taken at convenient times via the internet. See Berkeley College Online for more information.
Admissions Procedures & Immigration
Graduation from secondary school or its equivalent and proof of English knowledge are basic requirements for admission to a Berkeley program. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The Committee on International Admissions notifies applicants of a decision as soon as all credentials have been received.International students applying for admission should submit the International Student Application Form; a non-refundable $50 application fee; $300 tuition deposit; a certified official transcript (in English) of previously completed education; a TOEFL score, if available; and Certification of Finances. The TOEFL score required to enter any academic program at Berkeley College is 500PBT/173CBT/61IBT.
Student Visa Requirements
To apply for a SEVIS I-20 (which is needed to obtain an F1 Student Visa), students must satisfy to the College, based on visa regulations, that sufficient finances are available to pay for tuition and living expenses. This can be verified by a certified bank statement showing $29,000 from your sponsor. Once accepted to Berkeley, the SEVIS I-20 is sent with the Acceptance Package.
English As A Second Language
Berkeley offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) program through Embassy CES at the New York City campus. Students who wish to enter one of Berkeley's programs and do not have the required TOEFL score can apply for both ESL classes and admission to Berkeley College at the same time using the International Student Application Form. If all requirements are met, conditional acceptance into the academic program is granted based on successful completion of the ESL program. Students without a TOEFL score may be accepted to Berkeley College if they have successfully completed ESL at an approved language program such as Level 112 at an ELS Language Center.
International Club
The International Club provides a special forum for the specific needs and interests of international students. It organizes social and cultural activities, including field trips, that acquaint international students with life in America. The get-acquainted meetings often include a trip to the United Nations. Additional activities, such as international festivals, are organized by students at individual campuses.
